Playoff chances out of GRFC's control after loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — In a battle between two rivals with playoff implications on the line, it was the visiting team who had the last laugh and avoided a loss.

Detroit City Football Club scored in the closing minutes to tie the game at four, which would result in the final score. Grand Rapids Football Club finished the regular season 7-3-2 (23 points).

AFC Ann Arbor beat FC Columbus 1-0, meaning if Columbus ties or loses any of its remaining three games, GRFC is in the playoffs. A win for the Boys in Blue would have pushed them in with the Ann Arbor victory.

Head coach Lewis Robinson said GRFC didn’t do enough at the end to win.

“What a rollercoaster of a game from start to finish really,” Lewis said. “It was a fantastic game and it’s hard to wait now. We controlled our destiny all season until tonight and now we have to sit with our fingers crossed.”
