GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Kent County commissioners approved a ballot proposal that would fund early childhood programs to go before voters in November.
First Steps Kent, a non-profit that works to strengthen early childhood services, proposed a 6-year, .25 millage to create a dedicated source of funding for community-based, early childhood programs in Kent County.
If passed, an average Kent County homeowner would see an annual increase of about $23 per year.
All millage dollars will be reported and sent through an independent audit every year to maximize the use of taxpayer funds, according to First Steps Kent.
The proposal will appear on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
