Man receives life sentence for murdering wife

HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Hastings man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his estranged wife at her mother’s home near Hastings.

Ralph Bowling was sentenced Tuesday in connection to the June 2017 shooting that killed Cheyenne Bowling and wounded 31-year-old Nathan Farrell.

He was found guilty last month of open murder, attempted murder, two counts of home invasion, two counts of arson and three weapons charges.

Authorities say the homicide took place around 2 a.m. on June 11, 2017 at the home where his wife was living. Bowling went into the home, shot Farrell in the neck and then chased his wife from the house before shooting and killing her in the driveway.

Bowling also went back to the house and set it on fire, authorities said. Later, he turned himself in for the crimes.
