Bond lowered for witness jailed with suspect in girl's murder

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The bond was lowered for a man who was in jail with the murder suspect he testified against.

Judge George Quist agreed Friday to eliminate Daren Eckford’s $100,000 cash surety bond on the condition he wear a GPS tether after the prosecutor’s office said it was concerned for his safety.

Eckford is charged with perjury and being a habitual offender in connection to the Mujey Dumbuya murder case.

Eckford was a friend of Quinn James, who is charged with murdering and kidnapping the 16-year-old East Kentwood High School student.

Mujey disappeared on her way to school on Jan. 24; her body was found in a wooded area of Kalamazoo four days later.
