PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman is facing several charges in connection to the death of her 5-month-old son and alleged abuse of his twin brother.
On Jan. 31, Portage police went to a home in the 10000 block of Woodlawn Drive on a report of a 5-month-old having a seizure. When the child was taken to the hospital for treatment, doctors noticed suspicious injuries and trauma, leading to an investigation.
Police then learned the baby had a twin brother who showed similar signs of trauma. The boy was immediately removed from the mother’s custody.
On Feb. 13, the baby involved in the initial response died as a result of his injuries. An autopsy determined injuries to his head and neck were the cause of death and ruled it a homicide.
According to court documents, investigators say the baby's mother Jennifer Mohler confessed to hitting him with an eyeglass container and tossing the twins into a portable crib.
