Mom arrested for alleged abuse of twins; 1 dead

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman is facing several charges in connection to the death of her 5-month-old child and alleged abuse of his twin brother.

Portage police went to a residence on Jan. 31 in the 10000 block of Woodland Drive on a report of a 5-month-old having a seizure. When the child was taken to the hospital for treatment, physicians noticed suspicious injuries and trauma, leading to an investigation.

During the investigation, police determined the infant had a twin brother who showed similar signs of trauma and was immediately removed from the mother’s custody.

On Feb. 13, the child involved in the initial response died from his injuries. An autopsy determined the injuries to his head and neck were the cause of death and ruled it a homicide.

Jennifer Mohler, 21, was arrested on two counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of felony murder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
