GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — ArtPrize One winner Ran Ortner will be back at the world's largest art competition for the first time this fall to help decide who will win the juried grand prize at ArtPrize 10.
ArtPrize announced Wednesday that Ortner will be one of three jurors picking the $200,000 juried grand prize recipient. He will be joined by Lauren Haynes, curator of contemporary art at the Crystal Bridges Museum, and Brooke Davis Anderson, director of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Ortner won the $250,000 grand prize in the first ArtPrize in 2009 for his entry "Open Water No. 24." Based in Brooklyn, New York, he hasn't been back to ArtPrize since winning.
"Open Water No. 24" now hangs above the bar at Reserve Wine & Food in downtown Grand Rapids.
In 2016, Ortner told 24 Hour News 8 that he "couldn't overstate" the impact winning ArtPrize had on his career.
During the ArtPrize 10 Premiere Event Wednesday the competition also unveiled the jurors who will choose the winners of category awards:
- 2D: Dexter Wimberly
- 3D: Rebecca Carbin
- Time-based: Alex Greenberger
- Installation: Carmen Hermo
- Outstanding Venue: Kim Nguyen
ArtPrize 10 artist registration continues until June 7. ArtPrize 10 is Sept. 19 through Oct. 7 in Grand Rapids.
