Kalamazoo man hit by vehicle, killed while crossing street

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing a Kalamazoo Township street.

The incident happened Tuesday in the 3000 block of West Main Street at Solon Street, just east of Nichols Road.

Kalamazoo Township police say the 81-year-old man was trying to cross W. Main Street when he was hit by a westbound vehicle. Officers say the driver reportedly had a green light at the time of the crash, and the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

The intersection was temporarily closed while emergency responders were on the scene.

Authorities are withholding the pedestrian’s name until his family is notified.
