1 of 2 Crashes on M-40 Involved A Deputy

VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A deputy was involved in one of two crashes that shut down both directions of M-40 in Allegan County for more than two hours Friday morning.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was traveling northbound on M-40 at 123rd Avenue, north of Allegan, when the cruiser left the right side of the road and hit the end of a guardrail just before 4 a.m.

The vehicle went into the ditch and hit several smaller trees, badly damaging the cruiser.

A second vehicle heading southbound on M-40 also crashed into a tree in the road in that same area. Authorities say the tree in the road was not caused by the crash involving the deputy.

Neither the deputy nor the second driver were injured in the crashes, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both directions of M-40 between M-89 and 122nd Avenue were closed for more than two hours before reopening around 6:45 a.m.

The accident reconstruction team is investigating. The sheriff’s office says it is waiting for the results of what caused the crash before any further action is taken.
