Grandville Public Schools says district, police investigating bomb threat

TUESDAY UPDATE: The Grandville Public Schools buses are running a normal schedule today, despite the district receiving a second email threat last night about bombs possibly being on them. The superintendent apprised parents in a follow-up letter today that the Michigan State Police and Grandville Police Department did a thorough search of the buses and transportation department and found no evidence of any explosive device anywhere. The State Police say it was a swatting event that occurred nationwide and in multiple districts around the state. The district says security is being maintained on site 24/7. The school buses did not run yesterday out of what it says was an abundance of caution.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- The Grandville Public Schools say they won't be providing Monday afternoon school bus transportation after the district received an email containing a bomb threat.

The superintendent sent parents and families a letter today saying the district is working with police to determine the credibility of the threat. But out of an abundance of caution, there is no afternoon bus transportation. And all Grandville students who normally ride the bus will need alternative transportation home at the end of the school day.

Here is the full letter from the Grandville Superintendent:

Monday, Sept. 29, 2025

Dear Parents and Families,

This morning, our district received an email containing a bomb threat directed at our buses. While we understand how concerning this news may be, please know that we are taking the matter very seriously.

We are actively working with our local law enforcement partners to determine the credibility of the threat and to identify the appropriate next steps. Preliminary discovery is that this email service is based out of the country and is anonymous. Buses will be inspected and cleared. State and local police will work to determine the credibility of the threat. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.

In an abundance of caution, we are unable to provide afternoon school bus transportation today. As a result, all students who normally ride the bus will need alternative transportation home at the end of the school day.

If you are unable to make arrangements for your child this afternoon, please contact your child’s school office as soon as possible so that we can work with you on next steps. At the end of the school day, our buildings will remain staffed this afternoon for any student who needs to stay at school until they are picked up. We are working with our local districts to secure additional buses to help bring students home who can not get a ride home from school. Buses from Dean Transportation will run as normal.

We understand that this change may cause inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we manage this situation. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.

We will continue to communicate with our families as we learn more about this situation. Further information about transportation for tomorrow will be provided later this afternoon or early evening.

Thank you for your support and flexibility.

Roger Bearup, Superintendent
