PFAS detected near Grand River Burial Mounds

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A historic site in West Michigan has been tainted by 20th century science.

The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team says PFAS has contaminated the Grand River Indian Mounds.

MPART and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy have been evaluating the area of Chicago Drive and Lee Street since May 2023. The agencies are using money from a grant to evaluate fish in ponds in the area for PFAS.

Fish in five ponds in the area have shown levels of PFAS above advisory levels.
