Getty Drive-In to open for season on Friday

NORTON SHORES, Mich. -- Despite the wintry weather to start the week, the Getty Drive-In will open for the season on Friday in Norton Shores.

Emily Loeks with Studio C says the Getty, at 920 E Summit Ave., offers an old-school nostalgic vibe coupled with digital projection and sound broadcast through an F-M radio signal.

Gates open at 7:30 p.m., with the first movies beginning just after sunset, which is around 8:15 p.m. The first 50 cars to arrive will get a free Getty sticker.

Temperatures are forecasted to "warm up" to the low 50s by Friday, but drop into the upper 30s by nightfall.

"This is a fun seasonal outing and memorable experience for many in West Michigan, and some Grand Rapids/Muskegon area ‘regulars,'" Loeks said in a news release. "The cool (pun intended) part about coming NOW, or toward the ‘edges’ of the season, is that the first of the movie double-feature (which begins right after sunset) plays EARLIER, just after 8PM.

"So, bundle up, get some buttery hot popcorn and other warm treats at the concession stand – and enjoy the launch of the 82nd season of this Michigan landmark. First cars to arrive will get a FREE Getty sticker!

She adds, "Please note: there is a fun ‘family friendly’ movie combo on one of Getty’s four screens playing through to Spring Break, which begins next week."
