U.S. Rep. Scholten to visit southeast Grand Rapids women-owned businesses

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Third District Democratic Congresswoman Hillary Scholten will visit several women-owned small businesses in southeast Grand Rapids on Small Business Saturday.

She will be there along with women from the national advocacy group Women Impacting Public Policy. Kim Bode, president & CEO with 834 Design will serve as the tour guide. She told WOOD Radio the stop at local businesses will highlight the importance of supporting local businesses.

"I've been on the board for Women Impacting Public Policy. It started (in 2010), and then American Express joined. And ever since then, it kind of took on a life of its own. And it's become like this entire movement," Bode said.

The American Express 2023 Saturday Consumer Insights Survey indicates the total projected spending of U.S. consumers who shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday for last year reached an estimated $17 billion.

They will visit the following businesses between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday:

New Design Floral

Basic Bee

Dime and Regal

Sable Candle Co.
