Organizers set Turkey Drop goal of 5,000 donated frozen turkeys

WEST MICHIGAN -- WOOD Radio is partnering with Mel Trotter Ministries and Celebration Cinemas in the 21st annual Turkey Drop.

The goal is to collect more than 5-thousand frozen turkeys that can be distributed to those in need for Thanksgiving. The Turkey Drop takes places Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The public is being asked to drop off a frozen turkey. And if you can't do that, a financial donation can be made instead. Every $20 will count as one turkey toward the goal.

Here is a news release from Mel Trotter Ministries listing drop-off sites:

Mel Trotter Ministries is once again partnering with Celebration! Cinemas and WOOD Radio to collect frozen turkeys for individuals and families in West Michigan struggling with food insecurity this Thanksgiving holiday.

This year marks the 21st Annual Turkey Drop. The goal is to collect more than 5,000 frozen turkeys that can be distributed to those in need throughout West Michigan. To do that, Mel Trotter is partnering with the Muskegon Rescue Mission and Gateway Mission in Holland. These additional drop off locations will make it easier for people throughout the region to donate this year. Additionally, Feeding America West Michigan will provide storage and distribution of the turkeys leading up to the holiday.

We’re calling on the entire community to help out this year because the level of food insecurity is greater than ever. For community members unable to drop off a frozen turkey on the day of the event, we ask that you make a financial donation. Every $20 donation will count as one turkey towards our goal. You can go to turkeydrop.org to make a donation and learn more about the need in our community.
