City of GR will make a splash with Water Pool-ooza event on Saturday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The City of Grand Rapids will hold a free community event this Saturday called Water Pool-ooza on the Grand.

The event is described by organizers as a "day of learning." It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park, near the Guild Street entrance off (2001) Monroe Avenue NE.

Water Pool-ooza engages families and students in water-conservation efforts. There will be hands-on water activities led by professionals. Also, kayaking and a Touch-a-Truck opportunity for kids to check out public safety vehicles.

Water Pool-ooza on the Grand is open to students (ages 6+) and families, offering a variety of interactive experiences to explore and enjoy.

Attendees can look forward to:

  • Hands-on water activities led by water professionals, community partners and non-profits
  • Kayaking with GR Outside and macroinvertebrate sampling with Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds
  • Touch-a-Truck with City of Grand Rapids public services departments
  • Career exploration sessions for students interested in water-related fields
  • Opportunities to learn about local water stewardship initiatives and how to become a Water Champion
  • Resources for adults to learn about City services and community opportunities

Water Pool-ooza on the Grand is made possible through funding by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College and the City of Grand Rapids. Together, the group aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural water resources and inspire positive action within our community.

"We are extremely excited to bring Water Pool-ooza to the Grand Rapids and Grand River Watershed communities," said Hillary Caron, the City’s water education and programs coordinator. "This event provides a fantastic opportunity for families and students to learn about water conservation in a fun and interactive way. By coming together, we can make a significant impact in preserving our precious water resources for future generations."
