FBI investigating ransomware attack at Rockford Public Schools

ROCKFORD, Mich. -- The FBI is investigating a ransomware attack on the Rockford Public Schools, which has prompted the shutdown of its phone and email systems.

District Superintendent Steve Matthews informed parents today that emergency phones have been activated in the school buildings, which are secure. WiFi was shut down, as a precaution, while classes continued.

Ransom notes popped up printers in several school buildings.

The letter said, in part - quote - "We want nothing more than money. If you pay, we will provide you with decryption software."
