Suspect in assault leads police on 2 chases before crashing into townhome

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The suspect who led police on two separate chases last weekend before crashing his car into a townhouse has been arraigned.

Holland Police say 31-year-old Dean Isom is charged with third-degree fleeing & eluding, domestic assault, resisting & obstructing an officer, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. They say a 40-year-old woman told them her boyfriend assaulted her at a home in the Meadow Lanes Townhomes complex on Saturday night, in Holland.

Police later spotted the suspect nearby in a vehicle, but he took off. That led to a pursuit on M-40. When the vehicle turned onto I-196 and started going the wrong way, officers called off the search.

Allegan County Sheriff's deputies later spotted the suspect vehicle on I-196, but it failed to stop again. Eventually, the suspect returned to the Meadow Lanes complex and drove into a townhouse. Police say concrete steps prevented the damage from being worse than it was.

Holland DPS says Isom was taken into custody and later taken to Holland Hospital for complaints of injuries from the crash. After being discharged, he was taken to jail for alleged Domestic Assault and OWI. His bond was set at $30,000 cash or Surety.

The victim had minor injuries and sought her own transportation to the Holland Hospital for treatment.
