GRPD policies to be reviewed after Lyoya shooting

Grand Rapids Police Department Chief Eric Winstrom says the department will review training and procedures following the shooting of Patrick Lyoya.

Winstrom made the comments while addressing the City Commission on Tuesday.

Winstrom told officials he had already begun reviewing policy before the shooting on April 4.

Brandon Davis, the director of the city's Office of Oversight and Public Accountability, says he is also reviewing current GRPD policy on police shootings.

The Michigan State Police investigation is still ongoing and there is not timetable on when it will be completed.

An investigation by GRPD's internal affairs is separate from the MSP investigation.
