GRPD Chief releases name of officer in Lyoya shooting

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom is releasing the name of the officer involved in the shooting death of 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya on April 4.

Winstrom says he decided to release the officer's name for transparency and to avoid on-going speculation.

The officer involved was Christopher Schurr.

He is currently on administrative leave until the investigations by Michigan State Police and GRPD's internal affairs are completed.
