Updates to Spectrum Health's Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center will bring dozens of new intensive care unit beds to Grand Rapids' Medical Mile.
Construction is underway to transform the eighth floor of the building from conference rooms into a 24-bed intensive care unit.
Brian Brasser, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Spectrum Health Grand Rapids, says the demand for beds increased dramatically during the pandemic and the expansion will allow them to meet the needs of their patients.
