GRPM exhibit highlighting diversity in local history

A Grand Rapids Public Museum exhibit is highlighting diversity in the history of the city.

Newcomers: The People of this Place opened in 2008 but is calling special attention to parts of the exhibit for Black History Month.

One feature this month, includes the only known photograph of James C. Craig who moved to Grand Rapids in 1871 and opened the city's first Black-owned barbershop.

GRPM curator Alex Forist says the exhibit is only possible with support from the community.

Forist say community support helps with the collection of new items for the museum and also with feedback on stories that can be included.
