GRFD works to improve water rescues

Grand Rapids Fire Department is working on a new kind of training.

On Tuesday, the newly formed GRFD dive team spent the day training at Northview High School's pool.

GRFD Capt. Ed Braman says they are working on the future.

The team spent the day familiarizing themselves with the dive equipment in the controlled setting before they take a trip to a lake or river where there is a current.

This is all part of an effort by the department to improve water rescues.
