The city of Grand Rapids is working on replacing lead pipes using the United States Environmental Protection Agency grant.
The $5.1 million grant will be used for a four-year project to replace around 1,600 private lead service lines in the city.
Replacing services lines used to be the homeowners responsibility until 2017, when the city began the service for eligible homeowners.
Around 30 percent of service lines in Grand Rapids are lead.
