HOLLAND (WOOD-AM) - Recent heavy rainfall and gusty winds are being blamed in part for algae on the surface of Lake Michigan.
At this stage, there's no public health concern. Eventually, however, there will be a smell.
"It will start to decay and smell like rotting fish," Grand Valley State University Professor Rick Rediske tells WOOD-TV. "It's going to be an aesthetic issue and I think people will stay away from it just because of that."
Rediske and other experts say the algae should start to go away within the next week.
