Grand Haven to install cameras along pier

The Grand Haven South Pier will have cameras going up near the lighthouse this summer.

Grand Haven City Manager Pat McGinnis says the goal is to protect the newly restored lighthouse and will also serve to monitor safety on the pier.

The cameras have motion sensors and will send an alert to public safety officers who can monitor the situation from their phones before arriving on scene.

Five cameras will be installed for now, but more may be added in the future.
