Mel Trotter Ministries is spending $14.9 million to renovate the downtown Grand Rapids shelter.
Mel Trotter President and CEO Dennis Van Kampen says the improvements are long overdue as nothing has been done in 54 years.
The men's shelter will be transformed into two-bed rooms, with two rooms sharing a bathroom.
The money will also go toward more paid job training, social enterprise opportunities and more traditional housing.
