GRPD preparing for possible protests after Chauvin verdict

Grand Rapids police and community activists are all keeping a close watch on the trial of Derek Chauvin for the alleged murder of George Floyd.

Sgt. Dan Adams with GRPD says there will be protests regardless of the outcome due to passionate feelings on both sides.

GRPD says they support self-expression as long as it is legal.

On Monday afternoon, concrete barriers were dropped off downtown near the Secretary of State building.

Adams did not say how the department was preparing for possible protests.
