Local hospitals preparing for more patients as COVID-19 cases rise

West Michigan health systems are preparing for more patients as COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations continue to rise.

The highest numbers are currently being seen on the east side of the state, however West Michigan hospitals are preparing, in case the surge spreads across the state.

Mercy Health says they recorded a positivity rate of 23 percent this week.

The system had 45 COVID patients in Grand Rapids and 40 in Muskegon as of Thursday afternoon.
