Michigan confirms 17 cases of COVID-19 variant strain

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is confirming 17 cases of the COVID-19 variant strain B.1.17

Thirteen cases were recorded in Washtenaw County and four in Wayne County.

Health officials say the variant is more contagious however it does not appear to cause more serious infections.

Over the weekend, Michigan confirmed 3,011 cases of COVID-19 and 35 deaths.

Kent County confirmed 250 cases and one death on Saturday and Sunday.
