Beech Leaf disease Added to Invasive Species List

LANSING, Mich. - State officials are asking residents to be on the lookout for Beech Leaf disease, a disease that damages trees.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the disease has yet make its way to Michigan. However, it has been discovered in Ohio, several eastern states and Ontario.

t causes damage to leaf tissue on American beech and European and Asian beech species. Trees weakened by leaf damage become susceptible to other diseases and can die within six years.
