A former Grand Rapids doctor is heading to federal prison after he pleaded guilty to writing illegal prescriptions for opioids.
Sixty-three-year-old Richard Samuel Piazza was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release.
Piazza pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful distribution of prescription drug-controlled substances while other charges were dismissed due to a plea agreement.
