Policy change after Portland aid denied for ice jam

State emergency management officials are changing the way financial aid requests are handled after Portland was denied relief last year.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office agrees with Portland's city manager that it was wrong for them to be denied support.

City manager Tutt Gorman says the emergency management division of the Michigan State Police say Portland was missing steps in their request.

However, Gorman says the city had requested funds for tornado damage in 2015 and those steps were not seen as a requirement.
