Governor Vetoes Legislation to Expand Medical Lawsuit Immunity

LANSING (WOOD-AM) - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed legislation from the Michigan Senate that would have given health providers and facilities added legal protection from lawsuits.

She claimed the bill would "give health care providers and the facilities that employ them broad immunity every time an emergency or disaster is declared, regardless of whether the circumstances demand this extreme measure."

The sponsor, Michael MacDonald of Macomb Township, claims Whitmer is trying "to protect trial lawyers instead of the front-line health care workers."
