GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and state health officials are leveraging people’s love of sports to again urge Michigan residents to wear masks to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

A statewide briefing Wednesday started with Whitmer showing a new PSA featuring coaches from both Michigan and Michigan State urging everyone to wear a mask. Some of those coaches joined Whitmer at the podium.

MSU women’s basketball coach Susie Merchant said, standing alongside the governor, said, “If we want our kids to be in school this fall, we have to wear a mask. If you want to see college football this fall, we have to wear a mask.”

Tom Izzo, MSU men’s basketball coach said it doesn’t matter whether you’re a Spartan or Wolverine, everyone in Michigan should listen to our leaders and wear a mask.
