GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new survey of likely voters by polling firm EPIC-MRA shows Michiganders are split on when schools should reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The poll surveyed 600 people between May 30 and June 3, and showed 46% thought schools should start in August or September this year when schools usually start the school year.
The poll also found 42% of respondents didn’t think the school year should start on time — with 24% responding that schools should not reopen until there are effective medicines to effectively treat COVID-19, or when there is an effective vaccine to prevent the virus, 13% responding this fall in October or November and 5% not until next year.
State health department officials said the latest numbers released Sunday, showed he number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Michigan reach 58,879 with 5,656 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic earlier this year.
