GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) —A new 'COVID-19 Office of Accountability' was announced on Monday afternoon by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer with the goal of keeping an eye on all state spending linked to the coronavirus outbreak.
During Monday afternoon's COVID-19 briefing, the governor said, “The dollars we’ve used to keep people safe during this pandemic have come not only from the state treasury, but also from philanthropic sources and the federal government. Michiganders have the right to expect, no less so in a time of crisis, that state government will be responsible stewards of their resources.”
An executive order was used to create the new 'COVID-19 Office of Accountability'. The new state government agency will be housed within the Department of Technology, Management and Budget, will report to the state budget director and to Whitmer.
