BC man arrested for drunk driving, assaulting deputy

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop then assaulting a deputy in Calhoun County early Wednesday morning.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy made a traffic stop shortly after 1 a.m. on Battle Creek Avenue near Meachem Avenue.

When the driver pulled over, he ran away and tried to get into a nearby house on Battle Creek Avenue. The suspect then assaulted the deputy as he tried to arrest him. The deputy used a stun gun on the suspect, but it was ineffective, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was taken into custody after additional officers with the Battle Creek Police Department arrived on scene. The 45-year-old Battle Creek man is being lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and additional charges.

No law enforcement officers were injured.
