VERMONTVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — This year's maple syrup harvest got off to a late start and is already nearly over, but it will still be the talk of Vermontville for another month.
"I love it. I love it. It just makes you realize that spring is coming," Mary Ann Hayes, who runs the local Maple Manor syrup manufacturer, said of the harvest.
"We were about two and a half weeks late," she added, "but this season has been wonderful. The trees have produced very well and we’re looking forward to a great festival."
With taps and buckets set up on tree after tree, syrup is what put the small village in western Eaton County on the map. It holds an annual Maple Syrup Festival, which Hayes and her husband help run.
