Investigation finds no wrongdoing in inmate's death

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have released the findings of an investigation into the 2018 death of a Montcalm County Jail inmate.

The Michigan Sheriff’s Association MISSION team investigators conducted a two-month investigation into the death of 34-year-oldAmber Bills. She died Dec. 30, 2018 and had been in jail for eight days.

MISSION investigators found no jail policies were violated and no criminal acts were committed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bills was booked into the jail on Dec. 22, 2018 on a driving while suspended charged as well as an outstanding warrant.

Several days after arriving at the jail, the sheriff’s office said Bills started experiencing stomach pain. She was examined by a nurse on multiple occasions.
