WAYLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — General RV has partnered with Boy Scouts of America to donate hundreds of tents to local youth.
In its second year, the Trade Your Tent event hopes to help the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts get excited about camping.
General RV sales manager Mike Sweeney says the partnership came naturally.
“Just like them, we love to have fun and we love to go camping,” Sweeney said. “That’s really what it all comes down to, spending time with your friends and family.”
Last year, General RV was accepted over 150 tents that were donated to the Michigan Crossroads Council in Walker. From there, Sweeney says the tents have trickled into troops across West Michigan.
General RV offers a $500 rebate that can be used towards the purchase of any new or used RV or trailer. As a former Boy Scout himself, Sweeney says this event is a win-win for both parties.
“Any sale is just any sale, but when you do something like this that really makes an impact. That is what makes it special,” Sweeney said.
Sweeney hopes this event will help foster new interest in the outdoors and align General RV with the scouts’ natural progression through life.
“That’s kind of the evolution, right? You start in a tent, you get going, you love the outdoors, love having fun, spending time with your friends and family out there. Then it moves into something a little bit bigger as your family grows,” Sweeney said. “We just wanted to be there, we want to be the partner through this whole thing.”
General RV says the rebate can be stacked with other manufacturer coupons, which could save potential customers thousands of dollars towards their recreational vehicle purchase.
