KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating the destruction of the Eric Zapata memorial statue.
The statue was vandalized and knocked over last night, according to police.
Zapata, a 10-year veteran of the KDPS, was shot in an ambush in April 2011 - the first Kalamazoo city officer killed in the line of duty.
Anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects will be awarded $500 by Kalamazoo Silent Observer.
