BARRY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The parent of a Delton Kellogg Middle School student is facing a charge for allegedly threatening the school.
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office says 37-year-old Joshua John Raulston of Plainwell is charged with malicious use of a telecommunications device.
Investigators say Raulston was upset about his son being bullied when he called Delton Kellogg Middle School and threatened to bring a gun to the school.
The sheriff’s office says the school liaison deputy learned about the threat around 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 while talking with a school employee.
Barry and Prairieville township police officers found Raulston at his home and interviewed him. He was taken to the Barry County Jail and is free on bond, online jail records show.
Authorities say district Superintendent Kyle Corlett notified parents of the incident in a letter sent Tuesday:
“A parent of a Delton Kellogg student was arrested yesterday after recently making intimidating and threatening remarks to a middle school staff member on the phone. Barry Township Police and Barry County Sheriff's Department responded quickly to investigate and ensure that the school was safe. In the upcoming days, you may hear reports of the incident during the local news broadcast. Please know that the school takes such remarks very seriously.
“If you hear any threatening remarks in the future made towards the schools, whether on social media or in person, please let law enforcement and school administration know immediately."
