Gov Whitmer, Lt Gov Gilchrist visit Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II spent Saturday afternoon meeting families at a free event hosted by the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

The Whitmer Winter Warm-Up brought more than 1,500 people to the downtown museum. A line to meet Michigan's newest leaders wrapped around the entire first floor.

"I didn't know [the governor] was going to be here until my dad told me," 11-year-old Nate Gleisner told 24 Hour News 8 after getting a photo. "That was pretty surprising that she actually was coming to Grand Rapids. I thought that was cool."

Prior to meeting the people who waited up to two hours in line for a photo, the two took questions from reporters.
