BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Byron Center High School will hold vaping presentations for students and the community on Thursday. The presentations are intended to bring more awareness around the topic and the effects it has among teenagers.
School officials around the U.S. are struggling to control an explosion of vaping among high school and middle school students. There's a fear that the devices are creating a new generation of nicotine addicts.
"Vaping has become really popular and I don't know that students truly understand the dangers, nor do they understand the addiction that can happen so quickly," said Byron Center High School Principal Scott Joseph.
Joseph said he IS trying his best to prevent it from happening on his school grounds.
"We're not trying to ruin a kid’s life were trying to help them long-term and sometimes teenagers don’t see that," said Joseph. "They see it as rules, they see it as we're trying to ruin their life, and really we're just trying to protect them."
David Stults, a man diagnosed with Bronchiolitis Obliterans, otherwise known as "Popcorn Lung" in 2010 will be at the presentation to speak to students.
