GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who allegedly shot and killed his wife before shooting himself in the face will stand trial for her murder, a judge ordered Wednesday.
The ruling came when Michael McNeal was in a Grand Haven courtroom for a preliminary hearing, the Holland Sentinel reports.
McNeal, 55, is charged with the murder of his wife Sherrilee McNeal, 53. The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. July 24, 2018, in a horse trailer in front of the couple's home on Barry Street near 152nd Avenue in Port Sheldon Township.
The medical examiner testified Wednesday that Sherrilee McNeal was shot at close range three times. He said the fatal wound entered through her neck and exited through her cheek, and that it damaged major arteries.
The couple's 17-year-old son testified that his mother had been sleeping in the trailer to have some distance from his father, who he said has a drinking problem. The son said his mother had been messaging online with another man whom she met through a dating website.
