KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Work on the new Exchange building in downtown Kalamazoo has cut down a major traffic artery during this year’s busy holiday shopping season.
Crews have reduced Michigan Avenue’s four lanes down to one between Rose and Burdick streets to make room for a construction crane.
Businesses are feeling the impact, including Grand Traverse Distillery, which opened its Kalamazoo tasting room in July.
“(The past week’s) sales were down considerably,” said owner Angie Jackson. “It created a major traffic conundrum down there, and I think people gave up. (They) chose not to come down at that point as opposed to sitting in the traffic and not knowing what was going on.”
