GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Court documents confirm a man accused of dismembering a body found at his Grand Rapids apartment was with a missing woman days before.
Jared Chance is charged with mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual. So far, he has not been charged with murder.
Grand Rapids police confirmed Thursday they searched a Holland home Wednesday in connection to the case. Property records show the home on West 20th Street is owned by Chance's parents.
The Holland Sentinel reports a vehicle was towed away from the home and detectives could be seen taking photographs inside the home. Detectives would not elaborate on what they were looking for, or what they found.
An arrest affidavit for Chance indicates he was with a female acquaintance two days before Chance’s neighbor discovered a tarp leaking blood in the basement of their building. The court documents state officers found body parts in the tarp and in Chance’s Franklin Street apartment during their search Sunday. Police said they also discovered tools that could be used for dismemberment in Chance’s home, as well as several areas of blood and cleaning materials.
After the search, police took Chance, barefoot, into custody.
