GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man who made off with nearly $2 million after filing hundreds of fake tax returns is going to a federal prison.
Faheem Olugbodi, 48, was sentenced to 3.5 years behind bars, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday.
As part of a plea agreement, he previously pleaded guilty to conversion of government property. Federal authorities say Olugbodi admitted that he collected other people's personal information and then filed about 322 fake tax returns so he could get the refunds. In all, his scheme netted him $1,827,450.
