Sister asks for help in finding hit-and-run driver

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One of three people hit early Saturday morning by a hit-and-run driver is asking for help in finding whoever hit her sister.

The family says that one of the victims, a 26-year-old mother, is in extremely critical condition.

Grand Rapids Police say the driver, who fled the scene of the pre-dawn crash on the city’s southwest side, is still on the loose.

One of the people struck is asking for help in finding the person.

“Me and my sister and my uncle’s friend was hit right in the middle of the street at Hall and Grandville,” said Kiara Vega, who says she was swiped by the car, causing painful but not serious injuries.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning as 23-year-old Kiara Vega, her 26-year-old sister, Vil Marie, and a friend Alfredo were coming home from a relative’s house.

They were crossing the street when what Grand Rapids police believe was a black Chrysler 200 was driving northbound.

Vega said the car would have had to swerve in order to hit them all since they were on opposite sides of Grandville Avenue SW.

“No attempt to slow down, just kept going,” Vega said.
