Shoppers out on Thanksgiving for Black Friday sales

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — Black Friday shoppers packed stores and malls across West Michigan Thanksgiving evening.

"I have four children and three of them play basketball, so 40 percent off at Nike is like, woo," said Tonia Sorokin as she waiting for the Nike store at Tanger Outlets in Byron Township to open.

Some waited all day to be the first in. Jose Reyes and his sister got into line at 8 a.m. outside the Best Buy store on Alpine Avenue NW in Walker.

"About 1 o'clock, people started really showing up. It got really pretty good about 3 of 4 o'clock when people really started coming out," Reyes said.

Even with people out in droves, things at stores across the area remained clam, which was a relief to first-time Black Friday shopper Tyler Ryke.

"Everything I've ever heard about Black Friday is that it’s all chaos all around. People are loud, pushing each other, getting in fights, getting hurt, and none of that here," he said.
